About Me

My name is Chelsea Chasak. I have a Master's degree in Curriculum & Instruction and a Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, both from Texas A&M. I am a Jesus follower, wife, mom, and teacher with a passion for teaching reading. I began my teaching career in 2017 and quickly noticed the reading crisis. As I began my own research and learned from my on campus mentor, I discovered the Science of Reading and a wealth of knowledge about how the brain learns to read. I began implementing strategies around this knowledge in 2019 and saw my students make significant gains in their reading abilities. This grew my passion for teaching reading as well as my belief that all children can learn to read. After five years of teaching First Grade, I worked as as campus Reading Interventionist and gained experience with filling gaps in older students' reading knowledge. Now, I feel called to expand my network and help every child learn to love reading.

Kindergarten Prep

• Summer Program only (June & July sessions available)
  

This program will ensure that your child starts Kindergarten with all of the tools they need to be a successful reader and writer. The focus of this class is to solidify the foundation necessary for learning how to read through exploration. Children will play different games and activities to develop their Phonological Awareness, Alphabetic Principle, and Fine Motor Development skills. Inquire here to see the program outline. Reading Fundamentals

These programs are for emerging and developing readers. Each course is designed to incorporate the most important components of reading: Phonological Awareness, Letter/Sound Automaticity, and Decoding/Encoding Phonics patterns. The courses move in a developmentally appropriate sequence of phonological skills starting from Reading Fundamentals I-Reading Fundamentals III. Each program will also provide you with activities to engage your student in learning at home.

Individualized reading program

BACK

This program can be customized to fit any child exactly where they are at. It can be used to boost emergent readers or to catch up readers who may not have received the instruction necessary to become a fluent reader. This program will go at the individual student's pace and cover as much ground as possible in the time available. This program will incorporate the important components of reading: Phonological Awareness, Letter/Sound Automaticity, and Decoding/Encoding Phonics patterns. The course will move in a developmentally appropriate sequence of phonological skills and can be tailored to include any other areas a student may be lacking in such as comprehension or fluency.

Reading Comprehension

This program will focus on developing reading comprehension for children who are already fluent readers. It will focus on the study of Morphology, Language Roots, and Metacognitive strategies. Children will learn in an authentic environment through a book study. These students will complete various projects at home to demonstrate their comprehension.
